“Shaping Shape” is a book looking at a curatorial project with the same name, signed by Andreia Garcia, about the consolidation of the memory of the site through the challenge to transform and explore form (as architectural and urban matter), from Architecture and Art.
The book results from the thinking produced by the curatorship of the Architecture area for the “Maia’17 Biennial of Contemporary Art”, which was based on the consolidation of the memory of the place through a challenge to transform and explore form (as architectural and urban material) from the perspective of Architecture and Art. By intersecting practices, discourses and reflections, this privileged laboratory offered a framework for the Architecture programme as a metaphor for contemporary issues that would more permanently (and teasing the tangible boundaries inherent to the practices of the invited artists and architects) ensure the discussion on the urban imaginary, the city’s places for permutation, the way of thinking identitary processes in the preservation of material culture, the city as social expression of progress, the spaces of confrontation and contamination, as well as the meaning of belonging, experience, memory and appropriation.
